April 2005
April has been busy at work and at home I've been bogged down with yet another cold.

Green in a Sea of RedGreen in a Sea of Red
Inspired by last month's experiment with creating tiling textures in Photoshop, I put this piece together. I drew the initial diamond and offset it. Once I had cleaned it up, I defined it as a pattern and then used it to fill a layer in a larger file. I then went in and used red to clor in some of the areas. I first did a one that only used red and saved that for a texture to use in Bryce (see "Red & the Black Inn"). To make this piece pop a bit more, I reserved the center spot for a vivid green.

The Red and the Black InnThe Red & The Black Inn
I started with a floor texture from the Photoshop tiling project. Of course in the final render, the floor texture doesn't show well, but it was the inspiration for this piece.

Evening StarEvening Star
I drew another tiling shape on graph paper and then reproduced it in Photoshop. Once I had it done and defined as a background, I set to coloring in the shapes.

Afternoon ChampagneAfternoon Champagne
I did a second render from the Red and Black Inn to highlight the background details.

Bleak HouseBleak House
I started this drawing with just a blank red book on a tartan blanket but the book needed a title. Since I'm currently reading Bleak House (and enjoying it thoroughly) I chose it as the title for my opened red book. The drawing is 100% Photoshop.

177/1 Gobi Desert 177/1 Gobi Desert
My first render from flightjock's challenge planet, Gobi. I did a little color correction to bring out the tones. Created April 19, 2005

 178/1 CMYK 178/1 CMYK
My first render from slav's challenge planet, CyberCity. I did a three layer treatment and changed the hue in two of them to change the moon and mountain's colors. Created April 20, 2005

Green Tea Green Tea
Another photoshop drawing taken from a pen and ink doodle I did at work. Created April 21, 2005

Alzheimer'sAlzheimer's
While working on some models for a different project, this image came to mind. I've known quite a few lovely people who suffered through Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. This image is dedicated to them, their friends and family.

Kitchen of the Greesy Dog DinerKitchen of the Greesy Dog Diner
This is the larger project. I don't normally do kitchen scenes but I'm looking to do something different. Obviously a real kitchen would have more stuff and hopefully over time I'll get more things modeled.

Sean's HandsSean's Hands
My son has a thing for gloves, all kinds and all colors. He calls them "hands." Over the weekend he had me drawing and coloring all sorts of different hands. Oh the joys of being 2 1/2. After he had gone to bed, I put this together using Carrara to model the gloves and Bryce to render them. This piece is dedicated to my son.

Lemon Bowl Lemon Bowl
Another photoshop drawing taken from a pen and ink doodle I did at work. In this one I played some with the new brushes that come with CS. Created April 26, 2005

Closing TimeClosing Time
The barstools are one of my latest creations. The bar is a simple boolean operation. I probably should have put more detrious on the bar to give it a more realistic end of the night feel but it it was bedtime. Let's just pretend that the place is almost cleaned up for the night.

The Reading RoomThe Reading Room
The bookcases are my latest model and they are based on a bookcase offered by Ikea. The light through the windows happened by accident but it was so lovely that I left it. I used a few more globe lights to enhance the effect and went even further in Photoshop by adjusting the contrast. Some folks have asked me where all the books are. Let's just say that the absent reader is busy unpacking boxes of books.

Lulu's Lulu's
We were watching The Caveman's Valentine while I was working on this piece. I had put together yet another barstool. The Caveman's daughter is named Lulu.
