The Deep
I created the shark with Amorphium 1.0. I had only had the program for less than a month. I did the render in Bryce and added the ripples as post work in Photoshop.

School of Fish
I think this piece was my first attempt at using custom shapes and styles in Photoshop.

Atlantis
Here is the "Huntress" picture applied to the amphora.
Created October 2001 |
Ray Reflections
I created this low polygon mantaray in Carrara. It has some problems with its normals but still works okay for most underwater scenes.

Swimming the Estuary
This top down view of the ray shows the problems it has with its normals on its "wings."

Tide Pool
I modeled and renderd these anemonies in Carrara.
Created August 2002 |
Sunken Treasure
Here are the same anemonies in Bryce.

Green Linckia
The starfish is poseable in Carrara but not in Bryce.
August 2002 |
Tide Pool 2
It took most of an afternoon to get the lighting right to see the creatures through the water of this tide pool.

Gold Fish
I created this fish in Amorphium and textured him with help from UV Mapper. The bubbles are metabals and the sea weeds are Bryce trees.

Linda Mar Bay
I was trying to visualize what Linda Mar (in Pacifica) would look like if it had been flooded by the ocean.
February 2004 |
Chicken of the Sea
I just couldn't resist.
May 2004 |
Koi
Drawn with Photoshop. Here I used layer blends and ripple distortions to give the feeling of light and water.

Leviathan
I wanted to see if I could create a 3D model of the submarine I sewed on Sean's shirt. Then just for fun, I added a sea monster. The ocean surface here is actually a sky with some funky custom clouds.

Krabben und Sterne
I like to use Illustrator to design custom textiles for use in Bryce. It's been a while (more than a year?) since I've created a new textile. While reading an old copy of Florida Design I saw a wonderful crab pattern chair and was inspired to make this piece which I hope to use in a Bryce render soon.

Sea Star
I recently saw a photoblog that had a photograph of a lone sea star sitting on a beach. The image stuck with me and I tried to recreate it. I used Carrara for the sea star. The waves are a combination of an infinite plane (tiped at two degrees) , some stretched and squashed cylindars and some lattices for the foam. The DOF blur was done in the initial render and corrected a little with Photoshop.

Capp'y Rick Retires
David Cole made the swordfish and I thought it would be fun to hang it on the wall of a really over done interior. Maybe I was tired of doing landscapes!

Predatory Dance
I wanted to update "The Deep", a piece I did in 2001. I built this attempt at a shark in Carrara (the ray is a model from 2002). While it is much improved over the previous attempt it has room for improvement. At the moment though I plan to move onto something new as the render took 4 days to complete!
Created August 30 - September 2, 2006 |
Goldfish
I created this metalic fish in Carrara and rendered them in Bryce. They are inspired by a piece I did in April 2001 called "School of Fish" and done in Photoshop.

The Seal
Every year at Christmas I go to the beach. I think in anticipation of smelling the sea breeze I've been inspired to draw so many ocean based pictures.

Heldscalla
I took my inspiration from The Glacatic Pot-Healer by Philip K. Dick.
