Watermelon Slices: 10/04/07
I'm going to make a confession here: I don't especially like the taste or texture of watermelon. But I love watermelons in art; they are so colorful. The are deceptively simple. I've used watermelons in a number of my pieces and the most recent one is this piece called "Watermelon Slices."
I was inspired to go back to watermelons from another recent painting by Carol Marine called simply "Watermelon." What attracted me to it was the repetition of circles and semicircles. In previous pieces I've either done triangular wedges or full melons. The semicircles in Marine's painting challenged me to recreate them using the Bryce primitives.

Norma I've never thought about it, but I feel exactly the same way about watermelon--not much to taste, but so wonderful to paint."
Di As the wife of a produce man, I must ask if you have tried the Dulcinea, seedless, personal watermelons.

Callista LOL that's funny but I have to agree. I'll eat it if there's nothing else around but I don't like it too much. However it's so neat looking. "
Samantha_K Notsomuch into the eating of watermelon either, but it is beautiful captured on canvas or otherwise."
