What Are You Reading: March 7, 2011: 03/06/11
I've listed fourteen things as finished. More than half of those things are pictures books for my school project or short stories from The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. My currently reading still includes my text books.
Kraken, the massively huge novel by China Mièville is something I've been reading since Christmas. Finishing it meant reading about two hundred pages this week. It might have been as few as 150 pages. What I'm trying to say is, don't imagine me reading all of Kraken last week because I didn't. Not even close!
Now that Kraken is done, I'm reading The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. Although it has as many pages as Kraken it has about half as many words on any given pages. It's a nice change from the dense book I was reading earlier.
When I finish with The Lost Hero I will probably switch to Blackout by Connie Willis. It's been sitting on my to be read pile at home for a while.
Finished Last Week:
- Adventures of a Cat Whiskered Girl by Daniel Pinkwater (library book)
- Almost Single by Advaita Kala (library book)
- "Eating at the End-of-the-World Café" by Dale Bailey (FSF Sept/Oct 2010)
(personal collection)
- Another Jar of Tiny Stars by Bernice E. Cullinan
(library book)
- Fullmetal Alchemist, Volume 05 by Hiromu Arakawa (library book)
- "How Seosiris Lost the Favor of the King" by James L. Cambias (FSF Sept/Oct 2010)
(personal collection)
- Jupiter by Christine Taylor-Butler (library book)
- Kraken by China Miéville (personal collection)
- Lin Yi's Lantern by Brenda Williams
(library book)
- Once Upon a Starry Night by Jacqueline Mitton (library book)
- The Secret Lives of Princesses by Philippe Lechermeier (library book)
- The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley (personal collection)
- Thanking the Moon by Grace Lin (library book)
- "The Window of Time" by Richard Matheson (FSF Sept/Oct 2010) (personal collection)
Currently Reading:
- Azumanga Daioh Omnibus by Kiyohiko Azuma (personal collection)
- Essentials of Children's Literature (7th Edition) by Carol Lynch-Brown (personal collection)
- From Cover to Cover by Kathleen T. Horning (personal collection)
- Introduction to Cataloguing and Classification by Arlene G. Taylor (personal collection)

Congrats on finishing Kraken :) I've been meaning to read Rick Riordan I just haven't done it yet. Happy reading :)
Pussreboots
You should give Rick Riordan a try. His books are very entertaining.
RAnn
I had Saving Max; somehow it just didn't grab me.
Pussreboots
It didn't grab me either.
Jennifer
Wow 14 books and 7 reviews in one week you are amazing! Enjoy your week reading. My Monday.
Pussreboots
I prewrite my reviws so posting one a day isn't really that hard. Most of the things I read were very short.

Full Metal Alchemist is SO popular with the students at my school... I just can't get myself to read it
Pussreboots
It's actually very well written and drawn. You can read one in about a half an hour.

One of these days, I want to read The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie...hope you have a great week.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Pussreboots
You should. It's a memorable cozy mystery.

Hope you have a good reading week, Sarah!
Pussreboots
Thank you. I suspect it will be mostly astronomy books again.
Shirley
An extraordinary reading week! Good for you.
Thank you for stopping by my blog today. How did you like your enormous book "Kraken"? I hadn't heard of it before now. What's the premise and is it worth the time it takes to read it?
Pussreboots
Kraken was good but not my favorite by the author. I think he put a little too much work into the red herrings and not quite enough focus on the actual plot.

I'm truly amazed at how many books you've finished last week!! I mean, I'm reading multiple books at the same time as well, but wow. I only posted about two this time. Hop over if you have the time!
Hope you had a great weekend,
Juli

I left a couple books off my list, ones that I'm setting aside for now.
Tasha
Have a fab week! My It's Monday is here
Pussreboots
Thank you for stopping by.

A very eclectic list as always :-)
Pussreboots
I wouldn't have it any other way.
Pussreboots
I gave it a five out of five stars. Flavia is a delightful protagonist and the mystery is an interesting and clever puzzle.
Tanya
I finished up Kraken last week too - did you like it? I didn't and only finished it because I was doing a reading challenge that was almost finished and didn't want to pick another book.
Pussreboots
I did but I thought it had a few too many red herrings.

What did you think of Adventures of a Cat Whiskered Girl? We tried to read it for a library class, but it was fourth graders, and I could tell they were bored with it, even though they tried politely to listen - so we went on to How To Train Your Dragon.
Pussreboots
I'm trying to picture how you were reading the book. Were you reading it aloud and having them listen? Or having them take turns at reading it aloud? Also, had they read the other two books, The Neddiad and The Yggyssy? It's a pretty out there book when read in order but I think it would be nearly complete nonsense read by itself.
I loved the book but I've read the other two and knew what I was in for when I started.
Aths
You had an awesome week! Haven't heard of any of the books in your currently reading list - I need to check them out!
Pussreboots
If you check out only one book from my list, make it The Phone Book.
Kim
Oh my goodness....you have read a lot of books so far. I have not heard of Kraken, but judging my your comments and those by other readers, it must be epic!
*smiles*
Pussreboots
It's very long and very complicated. I will get it reviewed as soon as I can.
Leeswammes (Judith)
Congrats on finishing Kraken. I've never read anything by this author, but I almost read another book by him (stood with it in my hands in the library, but the copy was so old that I didn't bother).
I don't like it either when the text on the pages is very dense.
Have fun this week!
Pussreboots
You should read China Mieville but don't start with Kraken. Try Un Lun Dun or Looking for Jake to get a taste of his writing style without making such a huge commitment!
Elida
Good luck on the Rick Riordan-book, it's going on my list after I'm finished with Riordans "Percy Jackson"-books:-)
Pussreboots
It's good so far. I'm current with all the other Riordan books.
Aleksandra
I hope you enjoyed Kraken! Still haven't read The Lost Hero, I first want to re-read the Percy Jackson series, so I won't read it soon ;) Happy reading & have a great week!
Pussreboots
All you basically need to know is who Percy Jackson is. The Lost Hero has a trio of new main characters.

How's From Cover to Cover so far? I've owned it for awhile now but haven't read it yet. Happy reading!
Pussreboots
It's good but it's a text book. It's not something I would have picked up for fun reading. It is, however, making me rethink how I write my picture book reviews.
Julie
I don't know how you do all this reading! I know a lot of it is for school, but wow! Even worked in some time for manga. Cool!
Pussreboots
The manga is short. I've already seen the anime for Fullmetal Alchemist so I'm familiar with the characters and basic plot arch. It's my fun reading when I need a break from homework.
