On My Wishlist: April 23, 2011: 04/22/11

On My WishlistNow that I've done all the reading for my second project I have a little more time to read for fun. Only a little because I have other end of the semester projects on the burner too.

But it's enough time to finally finish a book from my wishlist. I read The Brother Gardeners by Andrea Wulf. Now I'm reading Mortal Love by Elizabeth Hand, another wishlist book. As it's a Link+ book, I only have it for a limited time so I have to give it priority over other wishlist books.

Upcoming wishlist reads include:

  • The Stainless Steel Rat Returns by Harry Harrison
  • The Kingdom of Ohio by Matthew Flaming
  • Wesley the Owl by Stacy O'Brien (Recommended by At Home with Books)
  • The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips by Michael Morpurgo
  • The Case of the Missing Narquess by Nancy Springer
  • Everything but the Horse: a Childhood Memory by Holly Hobbie
  • Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan
  • Rebecca's World by Terry Nation

The Featured Wish for April 23, 2010:

cover artHawaiian Nation: Man, Gods, and Nature by Michael K. Dudley and Keoni K. Agard (recommended by the Hawaiian Book Blog)

"An insightful exploration of traditional Hawaiian religion, philosophy and environmental thought. Fascinating and easy to read. By professor of Hawaiian religion at the University of Hawaii."

Hawaiian history and culture is another interest of mine. So when I saw a review of this book pop up on Twitter, I had to click through and read it. The book sounds good.

Melissa (Books and Things)

Great choice, but I think I'd rather go to Hawaii than read the book. ;)

Right now I don't have the time or the money for Hawaii but I can go there via an interesting book.

It looks interesting. A while ago there was a special on either Discovery Channel or NatGeo about the lost treasures of the Hawaiian Royal Family that piqued my interest in the subject too. I catch documentaries about Hawaii when I can find them and somewhere in my mountain of cartons of non-fiction books I have yet to find a place for, I have a couple of books about the Hawaiian Royal Family.

I hope you get to read this soon.

I don't have cable so I would have missed that special. I also have a book on the royal family that's on my TBR. I bought it the last time I was on Maui.

Everything on the bulleted list is in my possession. They are all coming due at the library soon so I will have to get them read.

I like to mix things up with a nonfiction now and again.

I read a Nancy Drew book a long time ago. Its story was set in Hawaii. And then I watched a Scooby Doo movie set in Hawaii. After that I don't remember reading any book with Hawaiian culture.
