What Are You Reading: August 15, 2011: 08/15/11

What Are You Reading?I'm posting late this week because I've been on a trip to the mountains and out of reach of the internet. While I was up there, I hardly did any reading. I did manage to finish Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford and Tall Blondes by Lynn Sherr while on the trip. On our drive to and from, we've been listening to the Wayside School Collection a seven disc audiobook omnibus read by Louis Sachar. We will finish the book tomorrow on the last leg of our drive.

Up next is the audio book version of Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale. We will start it after the Louis Sachar book finishes. I suspect it will be what we listen to in the car over the next week. We have more audio book than we have time to drive home!

I also want to finish Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder because it's as awesome as everyone has said. Then I'm going to run to the library and checkout the sequel.

For review books, I want to finish Peter Nimble and then see what's new and waiting for me at NetGalley.

Finished Last Week:

  1. Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford (personal collection)
  2. The Postmistress by Sarah Blake (personal collection)
  3. Roller Skates by Ruth Sawyer (library book)
  4. Tall Blondes: A Book About Giraffes by Lynn Sherr (library book)
  5. Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, Volume 9 by CLAMP (library book)

Currently Reading:

  1. Bombardiers by Po Bronson (personal collection)
  2. Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder (library book)
  3. Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier (review copy)
  4. A Princess of Landover by Terry Brooks (personal collection)
  5. The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan (personal collection)
  6. The Wayside School Collection by Louis Sachar (audio / library book)

Reviews Posted:

I read the wayside school book when I was younger and it was one of my favorites at that age. A great read :)

My son introduced them to me. I've read the first book before but I like the audio version better. Louis Sachar does a great job reading his own work.

I love the Wayside School books! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

If you haven't listened to the audio version, you should. They are fantastic.

I thought Yummy was very impressive and I also liked Inside Out (looking forward to the sequel)

I plan to borrow Outside In from the library as soon as I finish Inside Out.

I've got Peter Nimble on my list to read this week as well and I cannot wait to dive into it! I really need to read Inside Out as well, I've only heard amazing things and now you are adding to the list of positives.

Have a fabulous reading week and glad to hear you had a great trip last week!

Put Inside Out near the top of your TBR pile. We had fun on our trip but it will be good to be home.

Cool. I've always wanted to try Yotsuba:). And I need to read The Throne of Fire soon, although I didn't like The Red Pyramid as much as the Percy Jackson series.

When I was a teen I got into Egyptian mythology big time, so I'm biased towards the Kane Chronicles (ever so slightly) over the Percy Jackson series.

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I'm still sort of new to this and really appreciate seeing some friendly words from another blogger. I hope you enjoy Wayside School - I loved it when I was a kid.

I mostly got Wayside School for my kids to listen to in the car but I've been enjoying it too. Louis Sachar did an excellent job reading his own books. If you get a chance, give the collection a listen.

I'd love to hear how the Wayside audio books are. I use the first one in my second grade classroom, but it might be fun to incorporate the audiobook if it's well done. What do you think?

Comment #14: Monday, August 15, 2011 at 23:32:35

Pussreboots

Get the audio book. It has all three books and Louis Sachar does a fantastic job of bringing his characters to life.

Thanks. I don't know how it will turn out for reading. I have a lot of errands to run before the school year starts.

Thanks for visiting NotJustReading again - it's lovely to see a familiar face. How did you find The Postmistress? I have it waiting for me on Mt TBR ...

Once I figured out how the doctor's piece of the story fit in with the other two plots, I liked the book.

I'm curious about The Falling Raindrop. It sounds intriguing.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

I think The Falling Raindrop will work fine for older children (ages 6-8). It was a little too scary for my preschool aged daughter.

I hope you enjoy Book of a Thousand Days, I really liked it when I read it a couple of years ago!

We're about 70% done with Book of a Thousand Days. It's good, although it doesn't quite have our attention like Princess Academy did.
