What Are You Reading: July 23, 2012: 07/22/12
My favorite read last week was Amulet, Vol. 5: Prince of the Elves by Kazu Kibuishi which I read via NetGalley. I own the entire series and will definitely be buying a copy of Volume 5 when it comes out in September. The artwork is fabulous and the story finally explains the Elf Prince's motivation. He reminds me very favorably of Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The runner up was Flash Forward (audio) by Robert J. Sawyer. I listened to it because I was curious how it was compared to the television series. Although it's different, being taken from the point of view of the people who inadvertently caused the event, it was still very good. My son ended up listening to the entire audio with me. So if you have some tweens who are speculative fiction fans, they might also like Flash Forward.
My goal this week is to finish The Floating Girl by Sujata Massey and Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett. After that I'll start reading All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin and The Wedding Officer by Anthony Capella.
What about you?

These look good. I have been interested in Born on a Blue Day for years, but I haven't gotten around to it.

How did you like Owl in Love when you finished it last week? I've had my eye on it for a bit. I hope you like Drood by Dan Simmons I'm going to be reading that one sometime this fall. Have you read his books before? I read his other novel The Terror last fall and I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. Anyways sorry for babbling lol :)
Enjoy your books! Check out what I'm reading this week :)

Owl in Love is a strange book. I never really connected to any of the characters. I haven't read any of Dan Simmons's books. Frankly I'm not sure right now if I want to finish Drood.

I just put All These Things on my wishlist. It sounds really good.

FlashFoward aired for one season on ABC from 2009 to 2010. It was basically a miniseries desguised as a series. The book, Flash Forward has the same basic plots and characters but where they are located is completely different. Also the event they experience is 21 years in the future, not six months. Anyway, both versions are very good.

I haven't read any graphic novels in awhile, but the Amulet books sound good. Maybe I should try them. They'd have the added benefit of giving me some variety as well.

The Amulet series is excellent and has gotten better with each new volume. It's written for middle graders, so each one is a pretty quick read too.

I'm interested in Flash Forward, wondering if it's anything like Fringe? Have a great week and enjoy your line up of wonderful books :)

No. Flash Forward is a straight up time travel story.

I loved FlashForward. I was so annoyed when they cancelled it. Oh well, glad you enjoyed the book.
Here's my Week in Review.

Having now listened to the book I'm not surprised that FlashForward didn't go for very long. There just isn't that much to the book. Granted, what's there is very entertaining but it's not enough for a multi season show.

The London Eye Mystery looks tempting...and I LOVE the Alexander books. Haven't read that one.
Enjoy...and thanks for visiting my blog.

One of my book blogger friends mentioned the book back when the show was on. I've only now gotten to read it, though. It was well worth the wait.

I remember reading Owl in Love as a teen and I just read her new book Keeping the Castle not long ago. I like to listen to audio on my commute too but usually I listen to books I've already read in print. Easier to keep track of the story that way!
Comment #28: Monday, July 23, 2012 at 22:25:13
I haven't read any of her other books.

I am. That's a big part of why I'm reading it so slowly. I'm savoring it!
