Photoshop 6 or Higher: Create and Paint with Styles

Step 4: Saving, Changing and "Painting" with styles

Double click on the layer again to bring up the layer style editor again if it isn't currently open. At the top of the left side bar, click on the word "styles" to bring up the styles presets. Click on "New Style" and give the new style a name. It will now show up as a preview in the presets.

Style presets

Now for fun, try applying different style presets to the layer. Click on the preset thumbnails and watch how the layer changes. To revert back to the style created in this tutorial, click on its thumbnail.

Different Style

To "paint" with a style, create a new layer and apply a layer style. Then just select a brush and start painting!
